Why Choose Invisalign or Braces?

Schedule Your Evaluation

There are a whole host of reasons that a person might decide to seek treatment for their teeth with braces. The bottom line is that folks want to feel good and look good, especially when they smile. At Align Orthodontics we can help you get the smile that you have always wanted.

If you're wondering whether or not you're a candidate for braces we can offer a few of the reasons a person might need braces and see if your needs line up with them.

Crowding:

The most common reason that people get braces is a condition called crowding. It's simple enough crowding is when there's not enough room in your mouth, for your teeth. The teeth get all bunched together and rotate in crooked ways.

Spacing:

Another reason people get braces is because of spacing issues. This is the opposite of crowding. It's where there's too much space along the gum line for the teeth you have and so there are gaps between the teeth. With braces, we can help move your teeth into a position where you won't see the gaps or they'll become less noticeable.

Bite Problems:

Another big reason people get braces is because of bite issues. There are at least four different types of bite issues that can be addressed with braces. You might have an overbite which is where your top teeth go way over the top of your front lower teeth. An underbite is when the bottom teeth go way over the upper teeth; it's the opposite of an overbite. A crossbite is where some teeth go over and some go under. Finally, an open bite is where your teeth don't touch all the way around when you bite down. There may be an aesthetic or cosmetic component to these conditions. but the real problem with them is that bite problems can lead to bigger issues such as wearing down your teeth or receding gums. That can also play a part in headaches and jaw pain. So fixing a bite issue is a really important component of treatment with braces.

Of course, these are just a few of the reasons why you might choose braces for treatment. It's not exhaustive but they're definitely the most common reasons why people choose to get braces. Once that decision is made, you do have a few options. You can go the traditional braces route which many people have over the decades. But, thanks to new technologies you also have the option of clear aligners, like Invisalign. You might be asking yourself whether or not you're a candidate for Invisalign. We'd love to help you figure that out.

There are some great benefits to Invisalign:

You can eat what you want with traditional braces. You can't eat certain foods because they will either cause the brackets to pop off of your teeth or because the content of those foods react with the metal on the braces and can discolor your teeth with Invisalign, you just take out the clear aligner tray, eat and drink what you want, brush your teeth, and then pop them back in. It's really simple.

They're easy to clean. Along that same line, one of the benefits of Invisalign is that you can take them out easily and clean both the tray and your teeth. This also means that flossing is easier to do. We definitely recommend that you brush your teeth and floss every day, but it becomes a more difficult task with traditional braces. With Invisalign, like with eating, you just pop them out, brush, floss, clean your trays, and pop them back in. It's so simple.

They're harder to notice. Another reason why people choose Invisalign is that it is an orthodontic treatment that is mostly inconspicuous. Most people won't even notice that you're wearing them. This is a bigger plus for adults who don't want other adults talking to them about their braces. With Invisalign, most of the time people won't even know that you're in orthodontic treatment.

They are less painful. Lastly, Invisalign tends to be less painful since there aren't pieces of metal that can potentially scratch or cut the inside of your mouth. Especially if you inadvertently get hit with something like a basketball.

Whatever your reasons for needing or wanting braces are, we have treatment options for you. Invisalign may be one of the best treatments for you as well.
